Faculty of Education & Liberal Studies
The Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies comprises the School of Technical and Vocational Education and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School of Technical and Vocational Education provides the highest quality teachers and trainers in technical specialisations by promoting academic excellence through skill mastery and competency development in critical areas of need. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences provides learning experiences that foster critical and creative thinking, a heightened awareness and practise of professionalism and the development of skills in effective communication and social learning.
Mission Statement
To help students through its teaching, scholarship, creative production and community outreach to develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours that will make them proficient, innovative, ethical, enterprising and socially engaged professionals in general and technological arts, the humanities and social sciences.

Dean's Message
Welcome to the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies (FELS). The FELS stands at the heart of the university’s academic mission, shaping minds and strengthening disciplines across all fields of study. Through its diverse range of programmes in education, humanities, communication, and the social sciences, the FELS provides the foundational knowledge, critical thinking, and pedagogical skills that continue to shape future leaders who will make a lasting impact on their communities and beyond.

The School of Technical and Vocational Education (SOTAVE) is nationally recognized for preparing teachers in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and STEM education, with special focus on Business and Computer Studies, Industrial Technology, Food Service Production and Management, and a range of advanced programmes designed to meet diverse educational and professional goals. As a designated UNESCO-UNEVOC Center, SOTAVE is committed to international standards and innovation, equipping educators to shape Jamaica’s workforce and contribute to sustainable development. SOTAVE also offers specialized courses for the fashion industry, supporting creative talent and industry growth.

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) provides a strong foundation in general education, offering courses in Academic Writing, Foreign Languages, Sociology, Psychology, Ethics, Philosophy, and Politics. Our well-regarded BACAT program opens doors to careers in Journalism, Public Relations, and Advertising, complemented by core modules in communications and multimedia production. At SHSS, you will develop essential skills for leadership, critical thinking, and effective communication, preparing you to make a meaningful impact in your chosen field. We are excited to support you as you learn, grow, and pursue your goals within the FELS
