Carol Dean Archer PhD (Programme Director)

Professor 

Professor Archer is an Urban Planner who is also an International Consultant on local government reform, public policy, and urban governance in the Caribbean. She earned a Doctorate in political science of urban politics, public policy, housing and community development from the City University of New York, USA; Master's in geography plus Master's in urban planning; also a Certificate in Latin American and Caribbean studies at the State University of New York, Albany, USA. Prof. Archer delivers theory and practice in comparative politics of public administration for urban and rural land and land-use management.

 

Earl Bailey PhD

Senior Lecturer

Dr Bailey is a Development Planner who helped introduce into Caribbean academics Geographic Information System and remote sensing while professionally handling national squatter reports and participatory slum upgrade projects. He earned his Doctorate in land resources and urban planning from China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, China; Master of Science in natural resources management from The University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica; Bachelor plus Diploma in urban and regional planning with education from University of Technology, Jamaica, Kingston. Dr Bailey delivers urban and regional planning with development for land resources management covering policy, disaster risk, solid waste, and climate change.

 

Amani Ishemo PhD

Professor

Professor Ishemo is a Senior Regional Planner and Physical Planner Specialist with the United Nations Development Programme who earned a Doctorate in environmental management from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica; a Masters in urban and regional planning from Ball State University, Indiana, USA; and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania. Prof. Ishemo delivers disaster management, rural development, environmental management, with land-use planning and migration.

 

Elizabeth Pigou-Dennis PhD

Associate Professor

Dr Pigou-Dennis is a Social Historian and Material Culturalist with expertise on Jamaican residential architecture. She earned a Doctorate, Master's and Bachelor's in history from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica; also a Diploma in interior decoration from Penn Foster College, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. Dr Pigou-Dennis delivers architectural history and theory, urban history, and social history of The Built Environment.

 

Ruth Potopsingh PhD

Associate Vice President–Sustainable Energy 

Dr Potopsingh is a Sustainable Energy and Environment professional and International Expert on Caribbean Energy. She earned a Doctorate in sustainable development and an Executive Master's in Business Administration both from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica; a Master of Science in urban development from the University College, London, UK; a Diploma in Education also Bachelor of Arts at The University of the West Indies, Mona. Dr Potopsingh delivers environment and development planning, sustainable energy, and climate change.

 

Copeland Stupart PhD

Associate Professor

Dr Stupart is an Urban Planner specialising in Cultural Heritage Preservation and Tourism Planning. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in planning from the University of Waterloo, Canada; a Master's of Urban Planning from McGill University, Montreal, Canada; also a Bachelor of Science in architecture from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), Tallahassee, USA. Dr Stupart delivers urban and regional planning, historic preservation, cultural tourism, inter-governmental relations, and research ethics.

 

Garfield Young PhD (Dean of the Faculty of The Built Environment)

Associate Professor

Dr Young is a Spatial Science Specialist who is also a Pedagogy and Curriculum Developer for profession-based degrees. He earned a doctorate in geomatics education from the University of Nottingham, UK; a Master of Engineering Science in surveying and spatial information systems from University of New South Wales, Australia; and Undergraduate Degrees in land surveying at University of Technology, Jamaica; also Management and public administration at The University of the West Indies, Mona,  Jamaica.  Dr Young delivers  geomatics /geoinformatics specialisations in all their related areas.
