UTech, Ja to Install Fifth Pro-Chancellor and Fifth President

Chancellor, University of Technology, Jamaica, Ambassador Lloyd Carney will preside over the Ceremony for the Installation of the institution’s Fifth Pro-Chancellor, Mr. Aldrick McNab OD, JP and Fifth President, Dr. Kevin Brown PhD, MEng (Hons.), AMIMechE scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at the university’s Papine campus.

The Governor General His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, ON GCMG CD KStJ, who is also the university’s Statutory Visitor will bring remarks at the Installation Ceremony. The Honorable Fayval Williams, MP. Minister of Education and Youth is also scheduled to address the Ceremony. The newly installed Pro-Chancellor and President will deliver their inaugural address.

Mr. Aldrick McNab, an eminent sportsman, broadcaster, and business entrepreneur was appointed fifth Pro-Chancellor by the Minister of Education and Youth, Hon. Fayval Williams on December 4, 2023 on the recommendation of the University’s Council. Dr. Kevin Brown, UTech, Ja. alumnus, has been a trailblazer in academia and the aerospace industry for over 18 years. In his most recent role, he served as Technology Project Lead for Civil Aerospace Technology and Future Programmes at Rolls-Royce – a leading global aerospace company and provider of jet engines for commercial and defence aircrafts. He was appointed fifth President by the university’s Joint Committee of Council and the Academic Board with effect from September 11, 2023, for a period of five years.

In his new role, Pro-Chancellor, Aldrick. McNab will serve as the Chairman of Council and as an Ambassador of the University. In the absence of the Chancellor, he will perform all the functions of that Office except for the conferring of degrees. Prior to his appointment, Mr. McNab served as the Prime Minister’s Representative on the university’s Council from 2009 to 2011 and from 2016 to 2023. He also served as Co-opted member of the Academic Board from 2012 to 2020 and has also been an Adjunct Professor within the Faculty of Science and Sport and Deputy Chairman of Council since 2012.

President Dr. Kevin Brown, is the institution’s chief academic and administrative officer, reporting directly to the Council, through the Chancellor.  He is principally responsible for implementing the Council’s policies and exercises executive powers for the proper administration and operation of the University.
