Kingston, Jamaica – May 21, 2025 – The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) congratulates our Chancellor, Ambassador Lloyd Carney, on being ranked #73 on the inaugural Wall Street Journal list of the Top 250 Most Influential and Effective Corporate Directors set to serve on S&P 500 boards in 2025.

This prestigious recognition places Ambassador Carney among the most impactful leaders in corporate governance, alongside directors from major global companies such as United Airlines, Home Depot, Chevron, and Procter & Gamble. The Wall Street Journal, in collaboration with Bendable, conducted a rigorous analysis of over 4,000 nonemployee directors, evaluating board performance, governance, and leadership influence.

A globally recognized technology entrepreneur and investor, Ambassador Carney currently serves on the boards of VISA (Audit Committee Chair), Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Grid Dynamics (Chairman of the Board). Since his appointment as Chancellor of UTech, Jamaica in 2022, and his designation as Jamaica’s Ambassador/Special Investment Envoy for Technology in 2023, by Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, Ambassador Carney has remained a steadfast advocate for innovation, education, and investment in Jamaica.

He has also held senior roles at Juniper Networks and Nortel. As founder of Carney Technology Acquisition Corp., he has spearheaded investments exceeding US$600 million, including the expansion of Grid Dynamics into Kingston, Jamaica.
