English Language Proficiency Test (ELP) Cancelled for Academic Year 2020/21

The University Community is being advised that owing to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the related required health protocols at this time, the English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT) has been cancelled for the 2020/21 Academic Year.  Resulting from this cancellation, alternative arrangements have been made for determining entry of students into the Academic Writing 1 module offered by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies.

 Kindly note the following arrangements:

  • Students with Grade 1-2 in CSEC English A or CAPE Communication Studies, Grades 1 – 3 will be allowed to register for Academic Writing 1;
  • Students with Grade 3 in CSEC English A will register for the Developmental English module within the UTech Academy;
  • Student who have been accepted into the University and are awaiting CSEC results will be able to select Academic Writing 1 or Developmental English in Semester 2, based on the level of pass in CSEC English A;
  • Students who failed to receive a pass (Grades 1 – 3) in CSEC English A will not be allowed to pursue Academic Writing or Developmental English.  Under the revised entry scheme, such students will have two years in which to obtain CSEC English A for matriculation.
