When will lecturers be required to exclusively use the Blackboard Learn platform for delivery of classes?

Currently the project team is carrying out a pilot project with the participation of select lecturers and students for one year ending December 2021.  The project team is working to effect full adoption of BBL at the start of Semester 2 of the 2021-22 Academic Year.

How do I know whether a module I teach is being offered on the Blackboard Learn?

Lecturers will be notified by the following three ways:

  1. During the pilot phase, if you are a non-editing lecturer i.e. another lecturer developed the content for the module on Blackboard Learn, you will be notified via email before classes commence.
  2. Your timetable will also indicate that the room for your module is BB-Learn (illustrated below)
  3. The list of all modules that are being offered on Blackboard can be accessed from the UTech E-Learning page.

If I am interested in placing the  module I teach on Blackboard Learn for the upcoming semester, what should I do?

Lecturers may now commence developing content for their module on Blackboard Learn, in time for upcoming academic sessions.

Please send your request to your Faculty–Distance Learning (DL) Liaison Officer, who will submit the request with other pertinent details to the Office of Distance Learning (ODL). Click here to see the list of Faculty DL-Liaisons assigned to assist you with this process.

Access will then be given to the BBL platform and a template will be created for you to start developing your module. Supporting information will also be provided.

If my information was not submitted to the Scheduling Unit before the start of the Semester, how would I gain access to my module on Blackboard Learn?

Request that your Programme Director/Leader forward your name to the Scheduling Unit for you to be assigned to your class (es). Once the Scheduling Unit has updated your information, you will be enrolled unto your module within 24 hours.

Who do I contact if I am experiencing technical challenges on the Blackboard Learn?

Please contact Ms. Kamla Anderson () or Mr. Leon Grant (leon.grant@utech.edu.jm) from the Office of Distance Learning (ODL).
