Graduates of the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Ja) Faculty of Law were  called to the Bar during the Annual Enrolment Ceremony held at the Supreme Court and streamed online on January 23, 2026, marking an important milestone in their legal careers.

The Annual Enrolment Ceremony is a significant event in the life of law graduates marking their official admission as new attorneys to practice law. For the UTech, Jamaica graduates, the occasion represents the culmination of years of study and preparation as they transition from law graduates to members of the Bar.

President of the Jamaica Bar Association, Tenneshia Watkins, congratulated the new attorneys and encouraged them to remain committed to the principles of justice and service.  “Today marks the culmination of years of dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance. Each of you has demonstrated resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the study of law,” she said.

She reminded the new attorneys that their profession carries significant responsibility beyond professional advancement. “The practice of law is not merely a career. It’s a calling. It’s a solemn duty to serve justice, uphold the rule of law, and regard the rights and freedom of all. As members of the bar, you are entrusted with responsibilities that require diligence, compassion, and an unshakable commitment to fairness.”

Ms. Watkins also highlighted the changing landscape of the legal profession, noting “you enter the profession at a time when innovation and technology, particularly artificial intelligence, are reshaping the practice of law. These tools will not replace the values of integrity and fairness, but they will demand that you adapt, learn, and lead with wisdom in a rapidly evolving landscape,” she said.

With their enrolment complete, the new attorneys now join the ranks of Jamaica’s legal profession, poised to contribute their knowledge and skills to the administration of justice.

END.
