Intellectual Property

There are 2 general categories for Intellectual Property:

Industrial Property

Industrial Property includes patents, trademarks, industrial designs and geographical indications.

Copyright

Copyright includes literacy and artistic works such as novel poems, plays, films and musical works, drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures, architectural designs as well as scientific and scholarly works.

Industrial Property applications for registration must be filed with the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO).

To secure proof of authorship in the work, creators can mail a copy of the work to themselves (in a sealed self-addressed envelope) by registered mail through the post-office.
