University of Technology, Jamaica 76 Agreement with National Land Agency As of March 2020, the FOBE is in the finalizing stages of a proposed agreement between the National Land Agency and UTech, Jamaica for the National Calibration Network. This agreement takes into consideration the relocation of the National Surveying Calibration Network (NSCN) to the University of Technology, Jamaica’s Papine campus to facilitate the proper testing of surveying equipment in accordance with the Land Surveyors Act. Expected benefit from this agreement include, buy may not be limited to, staff and students of land surveying having access to the NSCN for instructional purposes related to their curricula, as a teaching tool/resource. MoU with Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting In February 2020, the University through FOBE signed a 3-year memorandum of understanding with the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting in Russia. This MOU will explore avenues for joint research and study to enhance and sustain the mining industry in Jamaica. MoU with Kingston Restoration Company FOBE launched the Downtown City Lab, on January 24, 2020, as part of the MPhil/PhD Built Environment curriculum. The first class was also held in the space on that date. The urban lab is a space where issues related to the development of downtown Kingston and other urban areas in the Caribbean will be explored. This arrangement comes out of one of the MOUs established as part of the development of the BE research degree programme. Study Tours The Head of School, CSA conducted an urban study with MArch 1 students of The City of London UK in collaboration with the University College London and hosted by the Jamaican High Commission UK. CSA conducted as urban study of Castries St. Lucia, in collaboration with ACSAC state member representatives of St. Lucia and the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College. The presentation of the study and analysis of Castries was supported by former Governor General Dame Pearl Louisy and broadcasted in the news media St Lucia News Leader marketing the BAAS programme. CSA participated in a successful study tour in St. John’s, Antigua, in collaboration with ACSAS state member representative who hosted the group. Students, guided by their Lecturers, studied and analysed the urban space how the architecture of the city has been impacted by history, culture, topography, trade and other factors. Because of this, the faculty has been approached as a potential partner in the Barnes Hill Community Reservoir Project in Antigua. Faculty of The Built Environment Cont’d.
