Baking and Pastry Arts Course of Study, received the 2019 JFMills Foundation Baking Scholarship at an award ceremony that was held at the Mona Visitors Lodge on November 27, 2019. Collaborations/Linkages Students from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) were among 28 participants in the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) Team Jamaica Programme. The SHTM students served as volunteers at the second staging of the Blue Mountain Coffee Festival held on March 2, 2019. The Volunteer Programme Award ceremony was held in at the Papine Campus on April 16, 2019, where the Honorable Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism was guest speaker. A delegation of four persons from Humber College in Toronto, Canada visited the University on February 10, 2020 for a Partnership Discussion Forum. The forum facilitated discussions on strengthening the existing partnership with University of Technology, Jamaica. y Amanda Rowe and Kymani Forrester, SHTM students were the recipients of the 2019 Canadian ELAP Scholarship for Study Abroad at Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. y Two students from the Humber College, Canada - Shenika Sinclair and Robin Klockors attended UTech, Jamaica on the reciprocal arrangement with Humber College during Semester 2 of Academic Year 2019/20. y Digital Media Zone, (DMZ), Ryerson University’s highest ranked university-based Incubator provided technical assistance on how start-ups in the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) can access the Canadian Market. The DMZ also conducted Capacity Building activities with the staff of the TIC, the output of this activity was a new value proposition and three new programmes. y The TIC facilitated Smart Term Limited, a client of the TIC, to attend workshops at the DMZ in Toronto in October 2019. SHTM Certified Test Site for the American Culinary Federation The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is now a Certified American Culinary Federation (ACF) Test Site. A site inspection was carried out on February 12, 2019 by a team from the ACF and the Tourism Enhancement Fund. The first set of ACF Practical Examination was held May 20-21, 2019. SHTM Day SHTM Day 2019 was held under the theme “Furthering Growth and Development Through Technology” was another success. Dr. Andrew Spencer, Executive Director of the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) was the guest speaker for the event. Faculty members, students and guests view a demonstration of the Bloomberg Platform during a tour of the lab. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) students in training, put their best foot forward in hosting the visiting guests from Humber College and the UTech, Jamaica team, for lunch at Lillian’s Restaurant.
