From the student’s daily log, the reasons were generally seeking Job Assistance (summer, part-time, full-time, and voluntary and internship), Information on Work and Travel Companies and Resume and Cover Letter Writing reviews. This reflects a 37% increase in visits of students to the Unit. Career Development Initiatives UTech, Jamaica Mentorship Programme under the theme “Build Character, Build Network, Grow Professionally” The 2019/2020 Mentorship Programme commenced with the staging of its 11th annual Mentor Workshop on Saturday, September 7, 2020 under the theme: “Build Character, Build Network, Grow Professionally”. The workshop was geared towards reinforcing the expectations of the programme and developing mentoring skills among persons interested in being a part of the programme. The guest speaker was Dr. Charlene Ashley, International Business Strategist / Organization Behaviour Consultant at The Consultancy Inc., CA. The programme consisted of about 100 mentors and 100 mentees. Mentor and mentee recruitment was at the same level when compared to last year’s 100 mentors and 100 mentees respectively. The opening exercise of the Mentorship Programme and Meet & Greet Luncheon was held on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Escarpment New Testament Church of God and the UTech, Jamaica Papine Campus respectively. Participants in the Mentorship Opening Ceremony held September 29, 2019 Western Campus Mentorship Programme This is the 3rd year for the Western Campus Mentorship programme which has been advancing to a higher level. They were 20 mentors and 20 mentees for the academic year. Employment Empowerment Session The sessions held during semester one were deemed as a success and came to an end on November 7, 2019. The Employment Empowerment Sessions resumed on January 23, 2020 with the theme “Entrepreneurship: Be Your Own Boss”. The Unit completed 12 sessions for the period at the Papine Campus. The final session scheduled for Thursday, March 12, 2020 was cancelled due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. Student Work & Travel Summer Programme The Unit registered 11 summer work and travel agencies that are allowed to recruit on the University of Technology, Jamaica, Papine Campus. The agencies are: SWAT Productions Ltd, STEEP International, IRSS (International, Recruitment Staffing Solutions), FIRST CLASS Cultural Travel Experience, IWTS (International Work and Travel Services), JOYST, HR Elite, Explore Your World, SORA, JAMEXGEN, ITCE (International Travel & Cultural Exchange).
