University of Technology, Jamaica 33 Halls of Residence Scholarship Programme The Halls of Residence Scholarship is in its third year of existence. Selection and interviews are governed by the University Scholarship Unit. The annual amount allocated to this scholarship is J$100,000.00, funded by dorm fundraising activities. Four residents were interviewed, however, based on the identified need by the committee, they were all awarded either bursary and or grant; a total of J$250,000.00 was expended. This scholarship is awarded to a returning student who has achieved a GPA of 2.70 or higher; is involved in hall activities; from a rural community, and upholds the rules and regulations which governs the Halls of Residence. The 2019/20 Scholarship recipient was Shantel Powell, while Glendon Levy was awarded a grant, and Stephanos Granville, and Latoya Reid were each given a bursary. Halls of Residence Occupancy The table below outlines the breakdown of local and international students per Hall of Residence for the 2019/20 Academic Year. Number of Resident Students for A/Y 2019/2020 The capacity of the Halls is 482 residents. However, a total of 498 residents were housed for the 2019/20 academic year. The inconsistency in capacity and total boarding resulted from students exiting the halls during and after semester 1, and these vacancies being filled within the period. CAREER AND PLACEMENT UNIT Job Applicants The office received 450 new applicants for the period. This represents a 27% increase when compared to last year’s 355 applicants. Figure. 9: Report on new job applicants in 2018/2019 & 2019/2020 Job Request and Confirmed Placements The office recorded 768 job requests from prospective recruiters for the year ending March 2020. This reflects a 10% increase in available jobs when compared to last year’s 696. Additionally, the office recorded 109 confirmed job placements which is a 4% decrease when compared to the previous year’s 114 confirmed placements.
