UTech, Ja Graduation Ceremony
Overview

Graduands will be required to assemble at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium at 8:00 a.m. in the designated area in preparation for the procession. Marshals will place you in alphabetical order. Please remain in place once you have been checked by the marshals.
Graduation Dates
On Friday, November 15, 2024, the ceremony will commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. and will accommodate Graduands from the following Colleges/Faculties:
- Faculty of Engineering and Computing
- Joint Colleges of Medicine, Oral Health and Veterinary Sciences
- College of Health Sciences
- Faculty of Law
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the ceremony will also commence promptly at 10:00 a.m. and will accommodate Graduands from the following Colleges/Faculties :
- College of Business and Management
- Faculty of Science and Sport
- Faculty of the Built Environment
- Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies

Graduation Guests
Each graduand will be allowed to bring two guests to the ceremony guests. Tickets must be collected at registration, and presented for entry to the ceremony.
Only guests with tickets will be accommodated at the auditorium.
All guests should be seated by 8:30 a.m.
Late Arrival for Ceremony
For an orderly ceremony, we request that you observe the following:
- If you arrive after the start of the procession of graduates, you must sit in the audience.
- Your name will not be called.
However, you will be able to collect your certificate after the ceremony.
REMINDERS
- Only registered graduates will be permitted to participate in the ceremony.
- All outstanding obligations to the University must be cleared prior to registration.

As Associate Vice President, Advancement with responsibility for Alumni Relations, I and Miss Cheryll Messam, our Alumni Relations Manager, are excited to be among the first to congratulate you on achieving this significant milestone of becoming a graduate of the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Ja.).
You are now part of a remarkable history and a fine tradition of excellence. UTech, Ja. has so much to be proud of and all of which is made possible by the support of many. You are a part of our success. Congratulations Graduates! We are proud of you!
We are so honoured that you chose to be a part of the UTech, Ja. Family and we in the Alumni Relations Office, look forward to journeying with you in this next stage of your personal and professional development, post graduation.
Our mission is threefold:
- to connect our alumni to each other to ensure networking benefits for personal, professional and business development;
- to connect our alumni to the University to build our volunteer, donor and advocacy capacity; and

These various alumni affiliates have been strong and effective supporters of UTech, Ja. and have provided support through scholarships for students; job search opportunities for fellow alumni; and donations of equipment and other resources. We highly recommend that you join the Association and/or a Chapter or a Special Interest Group and offer your creative ideas through membership on their sub-committees.

Registration
The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Ja.) is pleased to announce a fully online Graduation Registration And Awards Processing System.

Check for Award Status before attempting to register!
Registration Dates September 18 - October 31, 2024
In order to register for the Graduation Ceremony on Friday, November 15, or Saturday, November 16, 2024 or Collect Award between December 2-7, 2024, all graduands are required to complete the following procedures outlined below:
- Log on to the Student’s Portal to check whether you have received academic clearance.
- Click on the Student Page, then view the Provisional Award Details under the heading ‘Your Academic Information’.
- Students who have received academic clearance should complete and submit the graduation registration form by visiting the webpage at https://ecommerce.utech.edu.jm/graduation.
- Pay the graduation fee as per the package selected at any Paymaster or Bill Express outlet within 48 hours of submitting the graduation registration form online.
- Once you have paid the graduation fee, the Finance and Business Services office will assess your account to determine your financial obligations and advise you of your status, using the email address on your graduation registration form.
- You are not required to visit the Finance Department for financial clearance, as all communication will be done via email or telephone. Please ensure to read your email and follow the instructions.
- If you are financially cleared of all obligations, (that is, tuition fee, boarding fee, Sponsor/ Donor fee, library fee and graduation fee) the Finance and Business Services office will:
- Send you a confirmation email indicating that you are cleared for graduation and prompt you to complete the process at the Graduation Registration Centre.
- Provide the Student Records Office with confirmation of your clearance status via the Online Graduation Registration System.
- Provide the Bryan’s Studio with confirmation of your clearance status to take photograph.
- If you are NOT financially cleared, (that is, tuition fee, boarding fee, library fee and graduation fee) the Finance and Business Services office will:
- Send you an email indicating that you are NOT financially cleared for graduation and indicate the outstanding balance which should be paid in order to receive financial clearance.
- If you or your sponsor (including Students’ Loan Bureau ) has outstanding fees to pay, you will not be cleared for graduation and will be required to visit the Students’ Portal to view the details of your liability and so inform your sponsor (where applicable), to settle promptly.
- If your sponsor has advised that they will not be paying the outstanding balance, you would be required to make full payment using any of the University’s payment gateways. Once we have received the outstanding payment, your application for graduation will be processed.
Note: You may visit the student portal to view your account balance and transaction details. This can be accessed from the Student’s Reports drop list, by selecting the Account Balance Information or Account Transactions option to view account.
PAYMENT OPTIONS FOR GRADUATION REGISTRATION FEE
Payments for graduation can be made at any Paymaster or Bill Express outlet island-wide, using cash, debit/credit card or Manager’s Cheque.
You will be required to indicate the following to the Paymaster cashier:
- Student Identification Number
- Student Name
- Amount being paid
- Indicate to the cashier that payment is being made to “UTech, Ja.”
- Indicate to the cashier the type of payment being made, for example, graduation, tuition, boarding, etc.
You should ensure that the details printed on the receipt corresponds to the information given to the cashier (UTech, Jamaica Bank Account number is NOT required).
It will take at least two (2) working days for fees paid to be processed and for financial clearance to be granted for graduation.
Retain all receipts for transactions done with the University, for future reference.
No graduation payment or registration form will be accepted at UTech, Accounts Receivable
Rehearsals
Add Your All Graduands are to attend graduation rehearsals on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 5:00 pm at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium.

Checklist for preparation for graduation
- Complete Graduation registration process online
- Make note of the Photo Session dates and come appropriately dressed for Graduation Photos
- Collect Gown from Shared Facilities located at the Papine Campus OR Western Campus, 17 Dome Street, Montego Bay, St. James on Photo Session dates.
- Return graduation gown at designated area after the ceremony.
Collection of certificates after graduation
All graduates must complete the Online Graduation Process at https://ecommerce.utech.edu.jm/graduation/
Select the appropriate option and pay the relevant fees within 48 hours (2 working days) of completion.
Graduates who did not attend the ceremony may collect their certificates as indicated by the Collection Of Certificates After Graduation schedule upon presentation of a valid driver’s licence, national I.D. or passport. The 2023/24 UTech, Ja. ID card will be accepted until the end of December 2024.
All processing fees must be paid at Paymaster/Bill Express Outlets or online before the collection of your Certificate.

The Graduation Photo Package will consist of twenty(20) photographs consisting of:

Packages will be done at Shared Facilities upon presentation of printed financial clearance letter from the finance department and payment receipt.
Dress Code
- Males: White Shirt and Tie.
- Females: White Blouse/Low cut.
Please note the Graduation Package is inclusive of Photographs.

Requirements to collect certificate:
- Valid identification (passport, national ID, driver’s license)
- Printed Clearance document from the Accounts Department
If you are unable to collect your certificate, you can authorize a representative with a signed letter authorizing him/her to conduct business on your behalf. The representative must satisfy all requirements above.
Certificates will be distributed from the Shared Facilities Building – Lecture Theatre 48 between the hours of 9:00 a.m – 2:00 p.m. daily (see schedule below).

Collection of Gowns
Graduands are required to wear gowns at the Graduation Ceremony.
Papine Campus: Gowns for persons who will be participating in the ceremonies are to be collected at Shared Facilities during the Photograph Sessions as indicated by the Photo Schedule at Papine Campus.
Invitations will be distributed at the same.
Western Campus: Gowns for persons who will be participating in the ceremonies are to be collected during the Photograph Sessions as indicated by the Photo Schedule at Western Campus.
Invitations will be distributed at the same.

Return of Gowns
Gowns should be returned to the designated area immediately after the ceremony.
Graduates who do not return their gowns will be charged a replacement fee against their account.
The Congregation for the Presentation of Graduands is formal and graduands to be presented to the Chancellor are required to follow the dress code for the ceremony, that is the University Graduate Gown with appropriate Hood.
The wearing of corsage & boutonnieres is not permitted.
Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD Degree graduands are required to wear Hoods.
Women
Strictly – Modest White dresses (other colours are not permitted.)
Males
Strictly – Dark Lounge Suits. The wearing of T-shirts and jeans is prohibited.
