The Master of Science Degree in Mathematics Teaching is an online Evening Course of Study comprising thirty-six (36) credit hours which is conducted over four semesters. This programme was specially designed for graduates with an interest to specialise in teaching Mathematics. The Course of Study was designed to increase and improve the population of Mathematics teachers capable of teaching Mathematics at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels in the education system. The course is geared towards preparing the graduates to be Mathematics teachers and trainers, facilitators for professional development programmes, as well as for other leadership roles in various educational institutions. Additionally, the course of study will prepare teachers to adapt the Mathematics curriculum to their classroom context. This will ultimately assist the country in improving the performance of students in Mathematics at all levels.

Entry Requirements

The minimum requirement is grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 or a lower second class honours degree, or its equivalent. Minimum entry requirements may be determined by prior learning assessment. Within this context, any of the following admissions criteria are required:

(i) a first degree with specialization in Mathematics
(ii) a first degree with specialization in Mathematics and Education
(iii) a first degree in another discipline but would be required to take foundation modules in mathematics and/or education
(iv) a first degree in another discipline along with the certificate course in Mathematics offered by Church Teachers’ College
