The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology course of study offered at the University of Technology, Jamaica is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical skills in dosage form design, formulation, manufacture, quality assurance and regulatory activities. It focuses on the application of these principles in pharmaceutical products that are not only safe and effective but also meet quality control standards.

Course Details

The Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology is a full-time course of study that consists of taught modules, practical modules, an industrial internship, and a research project. Areas of specialization include cosmetic development and good manufacturing practices.

After the successful completion of 136 credits over four academic years (8 semesters), the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology degree will be awarded.

  • General Education Courses: These foundational courses cover a range of subjects and help develop critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Pharmacy Specific Courses: These modules focus on the specialized knowledge and skills required for pharmacy practice.
  • Specialized Courses: These modules focus on the specialized knowledge and skills required such as Cosmetic Technology and Spanish.

The mode of delivery is a blended format offering students both theoretical knowledge and hands-on training necessary to excel as a valuable member of the pharmaceutical industry.

Entry Requirements

5 CSEC/GCE O-Level passes including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and 1 other subject, preferably a Technical or science-related subject (Physics would be an asset).  PLUS A-level or CAPE Units 1 & 2 passes in Chemistry and 1 other subject, preferably Mathematics or Physics.  A foreign language would be an asset.
