Course Details
The objectives of the course of study are to:Â
- contribute to tourism development and to increase the productive capacity of the Jamaican economy through information, education, and training.Â
- increase the number of qualified Jamaican professionals in the hospitality/tourism field.Â
- work closely with industry professionals to develop products in the hospitality and tourism industry.Â
- develop operational manuals and business plans, designed for various hospitality and tourism businesses.Â
- encourage innovation and creativity which result in new areas of tourism development.Â
- expand awareness of environmental questions, with specific reference to the implications for tourism.Â
- stimulate graduates to apply their knowledge and creatively in developing the Caribbean product.Â
- develop graduates who have the skills and knowledge to enter the management of the tourism product and grow into senior managerial positions with large enterprises or to apply entrepreneurial skills in the establishment of their own businesses in the hospitality/tourism field.Â
The goal of the Hospitality and Tourism Management course of study is to prepare graduates who have chosen hospitality/tourism as their career for entry level management positions and leadership roles. This goal is accomplished through a commitment to student learning and development marked by high expectations and standards of conduct and performance; excellence in scholarship; exposure to the industry and successful industry professionals as well as training and experience in the student’s chosen area of the industry.Â
It is designed to meet the needs of the hospitality and tourism market and aims at producing a graduate who has:Â
- the required skills and competencies that will satisfy the industry’s demand for professionals in the hospitality and tourism field. Â
- an entrepreneurial and innovative attitude to work.Â
- broad knowledge of the business and competitive environments in the industry.Â

Entry Requirements
- 5 CSEC/GCE O-Level passes including English Language and Mathematics. A foreign language would be an asset.
