This programme was developed to build on the diploma programme in Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Structural Engineering and Quantity Surveying. It is intended to provide advanced knowledge and skills in related technology, construction materials and systems, financial management, human resources management and team building, to improve the capabilities of graduates and to assist them to perform satisfactorily at a higher managerial level. While building on the diploma programme, the BCM programme is much broader in scope and incorporates various aspects of design, project management, services engineering and road design and construction principles. In addition, it focuses on organizational behavior, environmental impact assessment and various aspects of construction management including project analysis and financing, insurance, disaster mitigation measures and building systems. Decision making at the highest levels in the construction sector is stressed along with the importance of teamwork for effective and efficient project implementation. Research is stressed as an important vehicle for understanding the nature and characteristics of construction, both in terms of the technical and human aspects, which enhances performance and productivity in construction.
