The Master of Science in Health Administration course of study prepares graduates for the unique demands of leadership at various levels within the health care organization. The course promotes excellence in the leadership and management of health care, a critical requirement to create the framework on which to build and sustain the health care system. The course brings together the interaction and sharing of Professionals with varied skills from all segments of the health sector and encourages group dynamics that bring out enquiring minds in the learning environment.

Course Details

Mode of Delivery 
  • The offering will be full-time over twenty-four months (6 semesters). This mode will be open to new graduates who may wish to continue their education in the field of health administration. 
  • The summer period will be utilized and be included as part of the six-semester period of study. 
  • The course of study is delivered virtually on-line and is organized to entertain study with very little interruption to candidates working full-time on their jobs. Except for internship.   
Course Objectives

The course of study provides Health Administrators, Managers and Health Care Professionals with skills critical to the leadership and management of the health care system. Individuals who complete the course of study should: 

  • Have a deeper understanding of and appreciation for health care systems and apply this knowledge to decision-making. As the system changes rapidly and extensively the need to respond appropriately and readily to the issues becomes critical. 
  • Possess the skills to manage critical resources that are demanded by the health care system to be utilized efficiently and effectively. 
  • Be more knowledgeable of the Caribbean health care systems and will be able to utilize such knowledge to strategically position their health organizations to respond to the growing demands of the health needs of the population.
  • Be able to source and utilize health information necessary for planning, and to inform and make changes necessary for sustainability in economic change and transition.  
  • Actively participate in the development of a culture of learning and inquiry, acquire the necessary research methods and skills, with long-term commitment, create partnerships and focus on core principles to lead the health care organization. 
  • Recognize, appreciate and commit to the generation of new knowledge that characterizes the practice of medicine, and the management of health services, and utilize the needs of patients, families and communities to plan and implement programmes. In order of priority, implement strategies that are patient centered and integrated for health care that is relevant.

Entry Requirements

  • The minimum entry requirement is a Bachelor degree in the Natural and Applied Sciences, Health Sciences or other related disciplines from an accredited institution. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.7 or equivalent.
  • Other professional certification may be considered on a case-bycase basis including the Prior Learning Assessment route (the development of a portfolio for evaluation of entry is required).
