The Drones In The Classroom Educator Professional Development (DITC) course is designed for teachers, school administrators, and education leaders who are interested in integrating drone technology into classroom learning environments as an engaging tool for STEM education and experiential learning. Drone technology has emerged as one of the most effective ways to capture student interest while simultaneously supporting learning outcomes across multiple subjects. As communication theorist Marshall McLuhan famously observed, “the medium is the message.” When students interact with emerging technologies such as drones, the learning environment itself becomes more engaging and motivating, encouraging curiosity, problem solving, and deeper exploration of academic concepts. Through this professional development programme, educators will learn how drone technology can be used to enhance teaching across mathematics, science, geography, technology, and engineering, while also supporting critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity. For example, concepts such as trigonometry, measurement, physics, and spatial reasoning can be transformed into active outdoor learning experiences. Students may work in teams to estimate and calculate the altitude or speed of a drone in flight, measure distances, conduct mapping exercises to calculate volume or surface area of objects or spaces, or participate in collaborative, drone-based challenges that reinforce curriculum outcomes in an engaging environment. The DITC programme provides educators with both the technical confidence and instructional strategies required to safely and effectively integrate drones into classroom activities for students from Grades 5 through Grade 12. Participants will also gain access to a library of classroom-ready lesson plans, activities, and instructional strategies developed by Volatus Aerospace through years of delivering drone-based STEM education programs internationally.
