The Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) curriculum is delivered over five years, combining rigorous didactic and clinical training. The course of study is structured into two preclinical years and three clinical years, integrating fundamental and advanced clinical sciences. 

In the preclinical years, students engage in a comprehensive biological sciences curriculum, ensuring a solid understanding of oral and craniofacial health and its relationship to overall health and well-being. 

Students will gain their first patient care experience in the first year of study. The course of study is designed to ensure that students acquire a wide range of clinical experiences, including the treatment of medically compromised patients, both physically and mentally challenged, and the management of emergencies. This comprehensive approach to patient care prepares students for the demanding responsibilities of dental practice. 

The faculty will coordinate externships and vocational training, collaborating with public and private sector employers to secure student placements. 

Overall, the curriculum is designed to meet the University of Technology, Jamaica’s requirements, as well as general education requirements, preparing graduates to be dental surgeons with professional competence in local, regional, and international markets.

Entry Requirements

• 5 CSEC/GCE O-Level passes including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and one other Science subject, plus 3 GCE A-Level or CAPE Units 1 & 2 in Mathematics or Physics, Biology and Chemistry
• OR B.Sc. in Dental Sciences, other Biological or Chemistry Degrees.
• An interview is required.
