24 ACCOMMODATION The Halls of Residence at the University of Technology, Jamaica, have a total bed capacity of 482. In August, 2020, however, due to the protocols governing COVID-19, the Halls had to reduce its total bed capacity to 191; all single occupancy. Of the seven (7) Boarding facilities, there is one co-ed Hall, namely the Dennis Johnson Hall of Residence. The design of the other Halls is single gender as follows; Donald Farquharson Hall, and Hall F are male residences, while Amy Jacques Garvey Hall, Halls A, B, and E, are female residences. Each hall is equippedwith all the basic amenities for your comfort, and is protected by an electronic security system; accessibility to the halls is attained through the use of an electronic access card. Several developmental programmes and activities are specially designed and calendared for the holistic development, and enjoyment of residents, following all Covid-19 protocols. Boarding fees are paid per semester; however, full payment can be made at the start of each academic year. Payment dates, inclusive of a payment schedule delineated by the University are communicated to accepted students. Accepted boarding applicants are required to pay a nonrefundable Boarding Commitment Fee (BCF), which is a percentage of the total boarding fee; this fee confirms the acceptance of your boarding offer. The annual boarding application period is October 1 to January 31. Students may complete this process on line, by accessing our website at www.utechjamaica.edu.jm. The completed application form must be submitted to the Accommodation Office by January 31; incomplete forms will not be evaluated. The Accommodation Unit assist unsuccessful boarding applicant, and persons desirous of living off campus with off campus housing. A list of available accommodation is available upon your request, and can be sent to you by email. DEFERRALS Applicants offered admission to the University may request a deferral of their registration for a period of one academic year. Requests for deferral canbedone by using theStudent Relations Management System link: www.utech. edu.jm/csac/login.asp or in writing to the University Registrar, and copied to the Student Relations Officer, Student Relations Unit and the Head of School in the relevant College or Faculty before the beginning of the instructional period in which the Course of Study would normally commence (Email: studentrelations@ utech.edu.jm). Approval will be contingent on the payment of the Enrolment Commitment Deposit (ECD). Applicants who have been granted deferrals will be guaranteed places for the next academic year, in the Course of Study for which the original offer was made, only if there are no changes to its matriculation requirements. A new application will be required if there have been changes to the matriculation requirements. Applicants will be contacted in writing by the Admissions & Enrolment Office two months prior to the expiration of the deferral period, to communicate enrolment information for the upcoming academic session. Note: Applicants who were granted deferrals must complete the “Application for Readmission” form prior to the end of the deferral period to indicate their intention to take up the offer.
