The awards took place during AnimeCon Fest held August 34 at the Chinese Benevolent Association Centre. AnimeCon, an annual two-day, multi-genre festival, celebrates animation, art, pop culture, and diversity, bringing together creators, fans, and industry professionals. The event featured animation, cosplay, comics, gaming, film, K-pop, content creation, and more. The university received awards in several key TAVIA categories: Best Voice Acting: Doggy Secret by Channae Herman Best Character Design: Doggy Secret by Channae Herman Best Story: I Am Bot by Chloe Campbell Best Animation: I Am Bot by Chloe Campbell People's Choice Award: I Am Bot by Chloe Campbell Directed by Drama and Theatre Arts tutor Ms. Gracia Thompson, who also served as Dawkins' mentor, the play was written by Dr. Norman Pottinger. The cast included talented UTech, Jamaica Players members Christopher Coke, Rolando Alberts, and Zuri Nguvu. Mr. Calvin Mitchell,Drumming Instructor, UTech, Ja. Centre for the Arts was nominated for Best Lighting Design for his performance in the Edna Manley Performing production of Macbeth. He also contributed to the Centre’s nominations for Lighting and Choreography. Dance instructor Kevin Moore earned a nomination for Best Choreography for his work in Dahlia Harris’ Jamaica Land We Love, while Patrick Earle, tutor for UTech’s Dance elective programme, was also recognized for his choreography in Macbeth. UTech, Ja Centre for the Arts Earns Actor Boy Nominations he University of Technology, Jamaica’s Centre for the Arts celebrated its first Actor Boy Award nominations with the announcement of the 2023 nominees on July 29, 2024. Alumna and lead actor Rashaan Dawkins received a nomination for Best Actress in a Lead Role for her outstanding performance in The Gift: The Psychology of Madness, which premiered at the Centre for the Arts Theatre on February 3, 2023. Ms. Dawkins, currently a member of the UTech, Jamaica Players, shares her nomination with notable talents, including Karen Harriott of Royal Palm Estate, Sharee Russell from Jambiz International, and Daindra Harrison, the 2024 Miss Kingston and St. Andrew Festival Queen. This achievement is a milestone for both Dawkins and the Centre for the Arts, as The Gift: The Psychology of Madness was the Centre’s second commercial production and the first to earn an Actor Boy nomination.
