Mrs. Marcia Robinson, Acting Dean, Faculty of Law, UTech, Ja. presents Jason Baker with the Student of the Year award during the Annual Academic Awards Ceremony held recently inside Lecture Theatre 50, UTech, Ja. Papine Campus for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic period. Mr. Baker received outstanding awards for being the top student in seven modules and was the valedictorian for the 2023 graduating class. The first in his family to attend university, which was not without its challenges. He experienced significant financial challenges and had to adapt to the changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, he is continuing his studies to complete the Legal Education Certificate at the Norman Manley Law School to become fully qualified to be admitted to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in Jamaica. “Through hard work and determination, your goals in life can be achieved” is his mantra. Ms. McKenzie performance was equally impressive with the copping of six subject awards. She overcame sickness, death of a loved one and the vicissitudes of life, to also graduate with the highest GPA from the Faculty of Law. She credits God for the miracles she experienced during her academic journey and believes in never giving up on your dreams. She expressed that “Sometimes life takes you on a path you never anticipated, but all things work together for our good.” he Faculty of Law, University of Technology, Jamaica, recently held its Awards Ceremony which brought together students, faculty and esteemed guests to celebrate exceptional academic achievements and contributions to the faculty. Mrs. Marcia Robinson, Acting Dean, Faculty of Law highlighted the significance of recognising academic excellence and the hard work of the students and also emphasised the institution’s commitment to fostering a culture of learning, innovation and community service. Keynote speaker, Mrs. Tanya Smith Anderson, alumna of the Faculty, Attorney-at-Law and Chief People Officer at RJRGleaner Group, spoke about embracing innovation, technology and integrity. Her words resonated deeply with the audience and provided sound guidance for the future lawyers. The award presentations included the recognition of students who satisfied the requirements for the Dean’s List. These were students who demonstrated exemplary academic performance. Students who attained the highest grade in a module and those who made significant contribution to the faculty were also recognised. The highlight of the awards ceremony was the recognition of the students of the year for 2021/2022, Mr. Jason Baker and Ms. Natalie McKenzie for 2022/2023.
