The Council of the University of Technology, Jamaica at its meeting held April 8, 2024, approved the recommendation forthe appointment of Mr.LloydDistantJr. as Honorary Treasurer for a period of four years, with effect from April 17, 2024. This recommendation was made by the Search and Selection Committee for Honorary Treasurer, established in keeping with the University of Technology, Jamaica Act, (No 27 of 1999), Statute IV and Ordinance 2012/26:Search, Selection, Appointment, Reappointment and Removal of Honorary Treasurer. As Honorary Treasurer, Mr. Distant’s principal role is to oversee the financial affairs of the University on behalf of the Council. His other roles include chairing the Finance Committee and serving as a member of the following standing committees of the Council: 1. Remuneration Committee 2.Audit Committee 3. Council Membership and Selection Committee 4. Governance Committee A UTech, Ja alumnus, Mr. Distant completed his Diploma in Telecommunications and Electronics, and thereafterearned a B.Sc. Tech in Computer Engineering and an MBA in Finance from New York Institute of Technology. UTECH, JA. COUNCIL APPOINTMENT Mr. Lloyd Distant Jr. is an accomplished Sales leader, Business Executive and Finance Manager with entrepreneurial competencies and expertise in finance and technology. He has a strong record of almost 30 years in driving sales and profits while generating significant revenue growth and exceeding quotas. His professional experiences include leading teams with responsibility for establishing best in class standards and processes for enhancing customer experience, financial planning and treasury management, overseeing large operational teams delivering and supporting complex business solutions, product development, product management and marketing, and has had extraordinary success in leading a sales organization spanning North America, Latin America and the Caribbean. Mr.LloydDistantJr. Appointed Honorary Treasurer Professor Kamilah Hylton Heads Delegation for 2024 Jamaica China Technical Assistance in Sport Cooperation Project Professor of Chemistry, School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Faculty of Science and Sport (FOSS) and Former Dean of the Faculty, Professor Kamilah Hylton, was appointed Chef de Mission (Head of Delegation) for the 2024 JamaicaChinaTechnical Assistance in Sport Cooperation Project. The Jamaica China Technical Assistance in Sport Cooperation Project now in its final year is the largest bilateral sports cooperation agreement between Jamaica and the People's Republic of China. It was initiated in 2017 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between both nations to facilitate specialized training in sporting disciplines for athletes and coaches. The programme aims to facilitate the improvement of sport performance and build capacity for coaches. As the Head of Delegation, Professor Hylton had responsibility for the coordination and administration of the 137-member Jamaican delegation to China from July to September 2024.
