Anushka Alexander I am in the School of Business Administration and that’s because I have always been interested in studying accounting and business. I chose UTech, because it was recommended to me and it has most of the resources that I wanted to use and study and it will give me a boost in the future. I heard about the clubs and the things that they do and it got me interested because the person who recommended it to me attended here and she met some wonderful lecturers whom she said would be more open to advise me on what it is I want to do here. I will be pursuing a Diploma in Construction Management in the Faculty of The Built Environment and I chose that programme because of my family background. The majority of the males in my family are in construction so I am basically following them, but I am here at UTech, because here in the new world, you need qualifications and that will determine your paygrade. I am here to get the best qualifications to reach my goals. In the construction field it’s about names and where you’ve been…everybody knows UTech in the Caribbean so it’s the reputation of the school for me. Shavoy Gooden STUDENT VOICES During the Week of Welcome (W.O.W.) annual orientation exercise held August 18 – 24, 2024, new students were asked to share their expectations as they begin their course of study at UTech, Jamaica. Cheyanne Jackson I am currently enroled in the Faculty of Engineering and Computing in the BSc in Computing programme and I am eager to learn because the world is now evolving into technology and I also think it is a good field of study. UTech is the birthplace of greatness. I was scrolling through the internet on UTech’s page and I liked it, so I wanted to further my studies here…my wish is to be on the honour roll. I am headed into the School of Computing and Information Technology and I will be majoring in Computer Networking and Security. I’ve always had a knack for computers and if something is wrong with it, I always do my YouTube research and try to fix that problem for myself. During the orientation I heard our Head of School mentioned that we beat the Jamaica Defense Force in a technology competition, and I hope to participate in one of those competitions and help to build my school on a greater platform. I have been hearing great thing about this school and that is the reason why I came here and I hope to be one of those great men.
