VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | September – December 2021 20 An historical milestone has been marked with the publication of the inaugural volume of the University of Technology, Jamaica Law Review by the Faculty of Law. The 2021 Volume 1 issue of the Law Review was officially presented by Attorney-At-Law, Mr William Potopsingh, Editor-in-Chief and Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law to Professor Colin Gyles, Acting President on September 24, 2021 at the University’s Papine Campus. The journal contains instructive and insightful materials on various branches of the law and is authored by faculty members of the University’s Faculty of Law. In welcoming the scholarly journal, Professor Gyles, who penned the Foreword for the publication, noted that “this is a major development for the University, because we now have a scholarly law journal that will continue for years to come and will be a source of reference not only for students and practitioners, but also professionals in the field.” The Acting President further noted that there is a lot of value in discipline-specific publications and affirmed that “I believe this is setting the stage for other discipline specific journals like this at the University.” He added that such publications provide an important outlet for scholarly contributions and for providing opportunities and incentives for persons to undertake research work and to publish. He expressed high commendation to Mr. Potopsingh for conceptualizing the journal and also extended congratulations to the other members of the edition’s management team comprising faculty members, Mrs. Marcia Robinson and Ms. Tanya Golaub. He also acknowledged leadership and guidance provided by Dean, Faculty of Law, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa and the inputs of other members of faculty and administrative staff who contributed to bringing the Law Review journal to fruition. In his Editor’s note, Mr. Potopsingh stated: “This publication is meant to celebrate the work of the Faculty and to give expression to some of what is taught. As we share these articles with the wider legal fraternity we hope that this journal will become not only good reading to those who love the law, but also a reference and resource tool to those who practice it.” The University of Technology, Jamaica Law Review retails for $2,500.
