17 September – December 2021 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica Under the theme, “Academic Excellence through Resilience”, the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies (FELS) celebrated the outstanding academic performance of its students for the 2019-2020 Academic Year at a virtual Awards Ceremony held November 25, 2021 via Zoom. Awards were presented to undergraduate students in the courses of study offered by the Faculty’s two schools - the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Technical and Vocational Education. Professor Shermaine Barret, Dean, FELS congratulated the awardees on their demonstration of commitment, diligence and focus, despite the mounting challenges of the past few years. She encouraged the awardees to continue to be true to “the values that lead to success.” Dean’s List Professor Barrett presented the Dean’s List Award to students who have achieved a GPA of 3.50 or higher. The recipients were Bachelor of Arts, Communication and Technology students Breanna Lewin, Danielle Mullings, Davaa Henry and Alana Harvey; Business and Computer Studies students Julian Copeland, Cleveland Tomlinson and Luann Samantha Morgan and Industrial Technology student Rodaine Osbourne. Marriesol Blake, Student Union’s Representative, FELS was awarded Most Outstanding Student Leader. The Caribbean School of Nursing, (CSON), College of Health Sciences recently received a generous donation of medical supplies and text books from nursing practitioners residing in the USA. The large collection of items comprising teaching and learning medical tools such as stethoscopes, blood glucose and blood pressure monitoring kits, pulse oximeters, and other supplies, was donated by a group of over 100 nursing practitioners, facilitated by an initiative led by Jamaican pediatric and oncology nurse, Ms. Jennifer Ogilvie through her professional affiliation with the American Organization of Nurse Executives. The donation was made in collaboration with nursing practitioner Ms. Kaye Whyte, also a Jamaican nurse residing in New York, USA. Professor Colin Gyles, Acting President, UTech, Jamaica, along with Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Adella Campbell and other members of faculty, formally received the donated supplies at a special presentation at the CSON Critical Care Lab on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the University’s Papine Campus.
