VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica | January – April 2021 24 The Department of Community Service and Development and members of the Students’ Union Council assisted the Ministry of National Security in providing Back to School Supplies to select primary schools within Kingston and St. Andrew. Several Diaspora organizations, partners, and individuals donated over 14k USD which was exclusively used to purchase school supplies that is expected to benefit over 1500 students across Jamaica in 20 schools. Rhordann Kildare and Rhoni-Ann Parkins are Mr. and Miss Resident Life 2021, following the Resident Life pageant hosted on April 11, 2021 by the Halls of Residents Entertainment and Cultural Committee in collaboration with the Resident Students’ Representative, Shavae Scale, under the theme, “Developing Powerful Men and Women of Purpose Love and Charity”. The event, which received strong online support, was hosted on YouTube, and saw the 11 finalists appearing in casual and formal wear. Contestants were judged based on talent, charity, innovation, confidence, awareness, poise, speech, talent, and stage presence. The top placed winners received trophies as well as prizes from sponsors and are now FUSION Ambassadors, tasked to promote unity and integration across the Halls, as well as to provide representation and inclusion for the Halls in sports, academics and leadership initiatives within the University community. The finalists were: Kressan Barnes, Ricardo Gordon, Shanelle-Rose Spencer, T’Yanie Kidd, Tafari Simpson, Jenelle Charles, Warner Bernard, Melika Thomas and Brenda Johnson.
