Ms Trowers also contributed a chapter in the book ‘Insurtech: A legal and Regulatory View’ (AIDA Europe Research Series on Insurance Law and Regulation). Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa, Dean, Mrs. Shuana Kaye Smith and Mrs. Takeese Gilpin Allen, Lecturers, as well as two students of the Faculty (Ashawna Peart and Annay Wheatle) participated in the National Conference on Technologies in the Justice Sector hosted by the Ministry of Justice in collaboration with the Court Administration Division. The Conference was held on February 27-29, 2020 under the theme “Roadmap to E-justice: Enhancing transparency, effectiveness and access to Justice”. During the review period, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa served as a resource person for the Sri Lankan Lawyers and Legal Consultation in Caribbean Region Public Forum, hosted by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. Dr Mahanamahewa made a presentation on the topic “Introduction to Caribbean Legal System and Opportunities for Sri Lanka Lawyers and Law Students in Jamaica”. The forum was held on January 8, 2020 in Sri Lanka. Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa, represented UTech Ja, at the World Health Organization/Pan-American Health (WHO/PAHO) organization conference held in Florida, USA from March 2-6 2020. Dr. Mahanamahewa was sponsored by WHO. The Theme for the conference was “The law related to non-communicable disease in the Caribbean Region”. Mrs Alicia Dixon Stone, Programme Director, presented at the Global Conference on Constitutional-Making and Constitutional Change in Austin, Texas, USA on January 17-18, 2020. The title of the paper presented was ‘Right or No Right: The Justifiability of Opening Sections in Bills of Rights in the Commonwealth Caribbean’. The paper was well-received. 10th Anniversary Celebrations The Faculty in celebration of its 10th anniversary (January – December 2019) hosted the Honourable Mr. Justice Michael Tulloch, Judge, Court of Appeal of Ontario, Canada, at a Distinguished Public Lecture held on September 24, 2019. The title of the presentation was ‘The Responsibilities that Come with Education’. Of note, the Faculty also hosted the Honourable Mr. Justice Bryan Sykes, Chief Justice at the lecture. Public Lecture On February 10, 2020, the Faculty in collaboration with the Florida State University hosted a Public Lecture presented by Dr. Erin O’Hara O’Connor, Dean of Florida State University, College of Law. Dr. O’Hara O’Connor presented on the topic “An Introduction to the United States Legal System from 30,000 Feet”. Community Service Law Boot Camp A Boot Camp was held to assist current and past students of the Faculty of Law in preparation for the Norman Manley Law School (NMLS) Entrance Exam held in July 2019.
