University of Technology, Jamaica 65 New/Revision of Courses of Study The first cohort of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Network and Security (BSc CNS) and Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (BSc CIS) was enrolled on 2019/2020 Academic year. The revision to the Bachelor of Industrial Engineering (BEng IE) was approved by the Academic board on February 2020. The revision to the MSc Engineering was approved by Academic Board in February 2020. Student Achievements y SCIT Student Roshelle Pinnock was invited to present her team’s mobile application ‘Green Dream’ at the 11th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM11) in St Maarten from December 2- 4, 2019. The ‘Green Dream’ app was developed by the UTech, Jamaica Girls in ICT team, which entered and won the Caribbean Girls Hackathon in April 2019. y A SCIT student team won the 3rd National Girls in ICT Hackathon 2019 in the young women category. The team’s winning solution targeted Climate Change and Resilience with the design of a mobile application prototype called Green Dream. The application helps households reduce their carbon footprint by allowing more efficiency with energy/electricity consumption. The application consists of several challenges that members of a household can engage in competition against and with each other, for example recycling challenges, conservation challenges and other activities that promote a healthy environment. Inaugural Professorial Lecture Professor Felix Akinladejo, Professor of Computing and Information Systems delivered his inaugural Professorial Lecture titled, “Computer Model and Virtual Reality Technology for Post Stroke Rehabilitation: A Techno-Therapy Intervention Technique” on April 11, 2019 at the Papine Campus. Linkages/Collaboration The Faculty designed the digital crime tip application 311tips.com, which was formally handed over to Crime Stop Jamaica under a licence agreement at a launch ceremony on December 11, 2019. The URL, 311tips.com application designed for Crime Stop Jamaica, provides the latest channel through which citizens can send anonymous information on criminal activity to Crime Stop Jamaica.
