University of Technology, Jamaica 62 FACULTY OF EDUCATION AND LIBERAL STUDIES Dr. Rohan Lewis Dean (tenure ended December 2019) Professor Shermaine Barrett Dean (wef January 2020) • School of Technical and Vocational Education • School of Humanities and Social Sciences New Courses of Study The Bachelor’s Degree in Entertainment Arts and Technology which was scheduled to commence in Semester 1, academic year, 2019-2020 instead had its first cohort commence the programme in Semester 2, January 2020. The programme targets the new thrust in the creative industries. Twenty-two students enrolled in the programme. Twenty students enrolled in tthe Image Consulting and Fashion Styling (ICFS) Associate Degree Programme benefited from scholarships provided by FHI360. Outstanding Student Achievements y Ajani Pinnock Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Technology (BACAT) student, participated in the Fusion Cinematic Film Festival Competition held on March 25, 2019 at the University of Technology, Jamaica. His submission copped the award. y Approximately 25 BA CAT students attended the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) hosted Lignum Vitae Film Festival on April 14, 2019. The event provided exposure and motivation in relation to the students’ sub-disciplines. y BACAT students Nisha Dupuis, Derron Campbell and Chevaughn Smith developed a feature called “Living Legends.” It showcases persons who have overcome hardships to become successes. The BACAT Annual Exhibition Final year BACAT students showcased their capstone projects in the annual exhibition held May 2-4, 2019. The event commemorated World Press Freedom Day under the theme: “Media and Democracy”. The students’ projects were themed around a variety of social issues: the environment, social justice, and culture.
