Page 81 University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2015-2016 COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT FACULTY OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT Dr. Garfield Young Dean During the academic year 2015/16, the FoBE commenced detailed reviews of all its courses of study. Eight undergraduate courses of study, and two graduate degree courses of study were offered. The faculty has collaborated with local and international partners in developing new taught graduate courses of study. Accreditation The accreditation/re-accreditation of courses of study within the FOBE remains a top priority. for the faculty. The faculty received the certificate of accreditation for the BSc in Land Economy and Valuation Surveying at the UCJ Accreditation Ceremony held in 2016. The faculty anticipates the accreditation of the BA Architectural Studies and the Master of Architecture courses in short order. COOPERATIVE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES Cooperative education is an important element in the curricula of most of the courses of study in the FOBE. Students in the Quantity Surveying and Land Economy and Valuation divisions are attached to Quantity Surveying and related firms for an entire semester to gain valuable industry experience in areas directly related to their course of study. Students in the SGIS course are attached to surveyors in the public and private sectors for exposure in particular areas that mirror the professional requirements in that discipline. Students in the URP programme are placed at different land-related agencies in Jamaica for internship Land Surveying Practicum Exercises The Land Surveying Practicumexercises continued, with students executing surveys in Negril, Westmoreland and in several locations in Kingston and St. Andrew. This year, the third year students incorporated images obtained from a Drone Fly-Over of the University’s Papine campus as the first important step in developing an interactive campus map. The faculty collaborated with the geospatial company GeoTechVision for this aspect of the practicum.
