availability for public use. The swimming pool is more widely available for public use. Recreational activities Apart from the pool and auditorium the most heavily used area of the sports facilities is the football field. Football is arguably the most popular sporting activity at UTech with a very high level of participation. With the university having only one field, which is also used for cricket and rugby among other activities, the quality of the field is deteriorating due to overuse and poor usage by both students and staff. There is urgent need for additional playing facilities. Community Outreach The Department of Sport contributed to the University’s Community Service outreach programme by way of providing access to the University’s sporting and recreational facilities for training purposes. The following groups were supported for the period: Special Olympics – use of the pool for learn-to-swim lessons on Saturdays mornings Deaf Sport Jamaica – use of the backfield and gym for training February – July (4 days per week) Mona Preparatory School – use of the backfield for School Track training (March – May) Sport Facilities Revenue For the period under review, the Department collected a total of $4,354,600.00 in revenue from the rental of the sports facilities. There were seven (7) cancellations of events which negatively impacted projected revenues.
