Page 46 University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2015-2016 training in sustainable energy and climate change management throughout the Region with strong focus on Innovation. The GIZ and CSEII conducted a Cross Faculty Workshop in July 2015, to build the synergies required for the proposed programme. GIZ later provided financial support through CARICOM for a Programme Coordinator to assist in facilitating the further development and implementation of the degree. The Board of Graduate Studies Research and Entrepreneurship at its meeting on February 18, 2016 approved the programme and it is expected that the Academic Board will ratify the recommendation. European Union (EU) co-funded Hydrogen Project In August 2012 the University of Technology ,Jamaica (UTech) began research on the sustainable production of hydrogen as a fuel for domestic cooking along with partners, Brunel University (UK) , University of the West Indies, Bureau of Standards Jamaica and the Ministry of Science, Technology Energy and Mining. Lead researcher was Dr Earle Wilson from the Faculty of Engineering and Computing with project management by the CSEII. The project was co-funded by the European Union under the ACP Caribbean &Pacific Research Programme for Sustainable Development . The project culminated in an International Conference on Hydrogen November 3-4, 2015 under the theme “The Hydrogen Economy – A Sustainable Energy Diversification Option for the Caribbean”. The Conference was well attended with local and international attendees. Students from Universities, Community Colleges and High Schools across the island were also in attendance. The main speakers included former Minister of Science, Technology, Energy & Mining-Hon Phillip Paulwell, Dr. Ruth Potopsingh, AVP-Sustainable Energy, Dr Earl Wilson- Senior Lecturer and Lead Researcher, Prof Maria Kolokotroni-Brunel University (UK), Dr Andrei Tchouvelev-Chair International Organization for Standardization, Canada and Mr. Everett Anderson- Proton Onsite, USA. Conference Proceedings were published and can be accessed at http://www. solarhydrogen.utechsapna.com/Event/5011/ keynote-speakers-international-hydrogen-conference . UNEP-Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) Small Scale Funding Agreement (SSFA) The CSEII was selected by the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change (MWLECC), as the implementing agency for the Small Scale Funding Agreement (SSFA) established through the UNEP- Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI), , on behalf of the Government of Jamaica. The GFEI Jamaica project titled: Stabilizing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Road Transport Through Doubling of Global Vehicle Fuel Economy has three core activities: 1. Data and research analysis of fuel economy potentials by country; 2. In-country capacity-building support for national and regional policy-making efforts; 3. Outreach and awareness-raising campaigns to stakeholders (e.g. vehicle manufacturers). The Project Launch and National Capacity Building Workshop, was held July 28-30, 2015. Knowledge transfer capacity building for enhanced energy access and efficiency in the Caribbean (CAP4INNO) The CSEII is a partner in the ACP EDULINK Programme - CAP4INNO - aimed at building capacities for the transfer and exploitation of innovative solutions and modern technologies for enhanced energy access and efficiency in the Caribbean. Partners are the University of Alicante (Project Lead), UWI (Cave Hill and St Augustine Campuses), Chalmers University (Sweden) and INTEC (Dominican Republic). The project started in November 2013 and will end September 2016.
