I am delighted to welcome new and returning students to the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) as you begin the 2008/2009 academic year. I am happy that you have chosen this noble institution to pursue your tertiary studies and I give you my personal assurance that you have made an excellent choice. At UTech you will be exposed to a rich blend of the academics, community service, the arts and sports. You are entering an institution with a reputation of excellence in preparing graduates who are well-equipped to make a valuable contribution to the job market and to social and economic development anywhere in the world.At UTech a student-centred approach to learning is encouraged and so I implore you to take a responsible approach to your studies from the very beginning of the Semester.Do read widely and take a pro-active approach to your learning and growth.

UTech is well-known for its strength in training graduates in the areas of business and management, pharmacy and the health sciences, architecture and construction management, engineering and computing and in teacher training education.There are plans to introduce new areas of occupational and professional training in the disciplines of Law, Dentistry, the Allied Health Science and Sports. You will hear more about these new programmes as the academic year progresses. Please read your Students’Handbook carefully and inform yourselves of the various facilities and student services available to make your transition to University life as successful as is possible.There are always members of staff ready and willing to provide guidance and assistance to you. Please make good use of the channels of communication and the avenues of student representation.
