31 August 2018 | VOICES Bi-Monthly Magazine of the University of Technology, Jamaica V eteran entertainer Ernie Smith thrilled the large gathering of guests who turned out for the UTech, Jamaica 60th Anniversary Concert on August 9, 2018 at the Amphitheatre, Shared Facilities Building, Papine Campus. The enjoyable evening headlined by Smith was dubbed “Evening of Musical Excellence: Down Memory Lane.” The baritone had the audience swaying and singing along to some of his well-known hits of the 1960s and 1970s such as “Duppy or Gunman,” “Life Is Just for Living” “Ride on Sammy”, “Pitta Patta” and a myriad of folk songs. Ernie Smith was backed by Desi Jones and Friends, and featured the UTech, Jamaica Choir, Instrumental and Steel Pan Bands, the Nexus Performing Arts Company and singer Everton Pessoa.
