t is my singular pleasure to extend a sincere and warm welcome
to our new, returning and transfer students to the University of
Technology, Jamaica for the 2017/2018 academic year. A special
welcome to our new international students and our students from
rural Jamaica. Thank you for making us your University of choice!
Staff and Faculty are all very excited to be a part of this thrilling
journey that you have embarked upon. Our goal is to make your
experience as positive and pleasant as possible. Your university
experience will be challenging but rewarding. We are here to
listen and assist you in overcoming the challenges in the best
possible manner. Please ensure you utilise the services offered by
the Division of Student Services and Registry which are geared to
support your academic growth and success.
You may by now have realised that University life is not as easy as you might have thought. In fact,
for many of you, particularly those coming directly from high schools, this is a major transition. I also
recognise that many of you are pursuing further studies after a long break. You will have the task of
balancing the demands of the work place while keeping abreast of your studies. This will require
resilience, motivation and commitment to your purpose. Nevertheless, we are confident that you,
like many others before, will apply yourselves and excel in your respective disciplines.
The Undergraduate Student Handbook, is an important guide to assist you in navigating your way
throughout your tenure at the University. Please make every effort to read it and familiarise yourself
with the Regulations and Policies by which your studentship at the University is governed. You are
also advised to access your student portal regularly and familiarise yourself with the information
provided from time to time.
The University is a dynamic institution and many student centred initiatives are currently underway,
guided by the vision of our President, Professor Stephen Vasciannie, CD. Ensure that you make the
best use of the opportunities these present.
We wish you well on your journey and look forward to celebrating your successes with you during
this time, and when you graduate.
