University Registrar's Message

Elaine Wallace, PhD
University Registrar

The University of Technology, Jamaica welcomes all new and returning undergraduate and graduate students to all our campuses for the 2012/2013 Academic Year. To new students I say ‘thank you’ for making UTech your university of choice. Our commitment is to demonstrate during your stay here that by choosing UTech you made the right choice. To our students who are returning to continue and complete their studies, we commit to continuing to be of service and support to you as we seek to offer you a better experience. And, to all I say that making the best of your experience requires your own resolve to be successful and to take responsibility for your life as a student at UTech.

Many of you attended our pre-registration sessions held at the Papine campus as well as at our Western Campus in Montego Bay and the Enrolment in a semesterized and would have some information on the what to expect as you begin your Course of Study at UTech.   As of this Academic Year Levels 1 – 4 of all Courses of Study will be on the semesterized timetable.   This phase of the UTech semesterized system was introduced three years ago to offer our students even greater flexibility in pursuing their education at UTech.  In this year we will further fine-tune the semesterized system to make the flexibility that it offers you more effective.   We will also improving systems in order to expedite the processes by which we provide our services and to be more efficient and more in keeping with the broader objectives for developing UTech.  We will again receive you during Orientation Week, August 19, 2012 at which time you will receive a more extensive introduction to the University, its facilities, the Colleges and Faculties, and members of staff.   Be sure to attend and please encourage your parent and/or spouses to be there as there will also be special sessions for them.

I am encouraging you to enroll for the modules that you are able to afford and to pay the fees that are due.  Remember you can only attend classes when you have paid your fees. Enrolment and registration are scheduled to close on August 21, 2012, so please enroll as early as possible. You should visit the sections on the UTech website that provide ‘New and Returning Student Enrolment Information’ for information that will assist you as you commence the enrolment process.

The Enrolment Steps as text and in an instructional video are on the website and we urge you strongly to view these before you begin enrolling.  There is also an Enrolment Facts and Procedures Manual on the website and you will also be able to find the curriculum for your full undergraduate Course of Study as well as information on financing your studies and accessing services that the University provides.
We look forward to working with you and your Students’ Union to provide the best service and support.

My best wishes for a successful and rewarding year.
