
Welcome to the home of the School of Technical and Vocational Education in the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies at the University of Technology, Jamaica. The School is committed to educating technical teachers for the secondary and post secondary levels of the education system. Our expertise lie in the areas of Business Studies, Computing and Accounting, Office Systems Technology, Family and Consumer Studies, Apparel Design, Production and Management, Food Service Production and Management, Construction Technology, Mechanical Technology Electrical Technology, Educational Leadership and Management, Workplace Learning and Adult Teaching and Learning.
We are very proud of our record of success which includes (but not limited to):
- Producing high quality teachers for Jamaica and the region;
- The success of our graduates in sourcing jobs both locally and overseas;
- Training pre-trained lecturers here at the University of Technology and other tertiary institutions; providing upgrading opportunities for school managers in the Eastern Caribbean;
- Providing leadership within UTech in the area of graduate studies being the first unit of the University to offer a programme at the graduate level;
- Leading the charge in distance teaching out of the University and
- Influencing the thinking in technical and vocational education both locally and regionally.
At the undergraduate level our programme offerings include:
- The Bachelor of Education – Post Diploma
- A Four-year full-time Bachelor of Education Degree in Technical and Vocational Education and Training majoring in: Business and Computer Studies; Family and Consumer Studies; Apparel Design Production and Management; Food Service Production and Management and Industrial Technology.
At the graduate level we offer
- The Postgraduate Diploma in Education
- The Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership and Management
- The Master of Science in Workforce Education and Development
- The Master of Arts in International Partnership for Service Learning currently in collaboration with Portland State University in the United State of America
Part of our mandate is to reach out to the wider Caribbean with our services and as such we have successfully collaborated with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to deliver the Special Diploma in Technical and Vocational Teaching offered by distance to the Caribbean region and a Special Certificate in Technical and Vocational Teaching on site to the Caribbean region.
As a result of the possibilities afforded us by the explosion in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and in keeping with the Universities thrust to deepen and expand its expertise in the area of online learning the School has successfully delivered its first online course of study using the blended mode. This Continuing Education Certificate in Adult Education course was delivered in collaboration with the Continuing Education and Open and Distance Learning unit of the University to students within the Caribbean.
