Programme Description
The BSc. in Science and Education is designed to prepare competent science and mathematics teachers for the education system at the upper secondary levels (CSEC and CAPE).
The curriculum will equip graduates with in-depth knowledge of two pure science subjects as well as provide the specific techniques, skills and teaching experience necessary for them to become effective educators.
Graduates will be more analytical in their approach to the teaching of mathematics and science
Programme Design
The BSc. in Science and Education degree consists of a double science major along with supporting education courses and electives. The two science majors will be selected from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics. The degree consists of 137 credits completed over eight (8) semesters. This includes two supervised periods of Teaching Practice in Year 3 and Year 4.
Entry Requirements
In addition to passing a final selection interview, the applicant should satisfy the following requirements:
- A minimum of five (5) CSEC General proficiency levels 1, 2 or 3 (3 as of June 1998) or GCE O’Level A, B & C in English Language, Mathematics and two science subjects relevant to areas of specialization and any other subject.
- Applicants with other types of academic qualifications will be evaluated in accordance with the University’s regulation on academic equivalency.Persons 25 years of age and above who are not eligible for admission under the normal entry requirements outlined above may apply for MATURE ENTRY by submitting a portfolio attesting to their attainments and/or relevant experience.
