To become a Centre of Excellence in the provision of accredited academic programs in the Dental Sciences that are practically-based, work and service oriented, research driven and relevant for present and future national and regional needs.

The School of Oral Health Sciences is committed to:

  1. Advancing excellence in dental  services education, fostering a culture of discovery in all of our activities and supporting exemplary dental  sciences research.

  2. Building a work environment where each person is valued, respected and has an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

  3. Demonstrating social responsibility through the appropriate use of our resources.

PRIORITY GOALS FOR MAY 2009/2010

  1. Facilitate the smooth development of the School of Oral Health Sciences.

  2. Develop and implement market-driven Undergraduate and Graduate courses of study
    - Continue work on the curriculum for the Doctor of Dental Medicine (projected implementation in 2010)

  3. Prepare Self Study documents for the accreditation of the School’s courses of study.
    - Renew and revise existing Self Study documents already submitted to the UCJ as it relates to the existing Dental Auxiliary programs

  4. Promote/stimulate research activities among staff.
    - Continue to implement existing research project.

  5. Establish and implement short courses for continuing education and professional development in the areas of:

    • Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology.

    • Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology.

    • Infection Control in the Dental Clinic.

  6. Configure/develop courses or modules for distance delivery in the areas of:

    • Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology.

    • Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology.

    • Infection Control in the Dental Clinic

  7. Establish and maintain collaborations with other academic institutions such as:

    • University of New York.

    • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

    • University of Maryland, School of Dentistry.

  8. Pursue consultancy projects/income generating activities:

    • Continue to explore the establishment of an Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Biopsy service in collaboration with the Division of Medical Technology.
