The Computing & Engineering Extension Centre
fits well within the University goals. The strategic plan for the university
includes the following objectives:
◊ To develop outreach activities to increase
UTech’s impact on social, cultural, economic and technological development.
◊ To address problems of local organizations
as a means of strengthening the institutions links to the wider society.
◊ To enhance the University image
internationally.
◊ To be recognized as a source for
technological innovation.
◊ To contribute to the development of the
region through Research & Development.
◊ To increase the Research & Development
capacity within the university.
The activities of the Centre will aid in the
accomplishment of these objectives. The training and professional
development programmes offered by the Centre will have an immediate impact
in solving problems of local organisations. The UICEE component of the
Centre will give the University a visible presence in international
engineering education circles. Successful consultancy/applied research
projects will improve the image of the university amongst local entities. It
is also expected that the activities in which the Centre will be involved
will lead to the development of patentable devices, processes and ideas.
UTech will gain recognition as a source of technological innovation.
Increased interaction with industry will have synergistic results; Utech
staff will become more aware of engineering and computing problems in
industry while industrial staff will become more aware of modern engineering
and computing processes and operations. |
