Education and Training

Currently the main focus of the CEEC is to enhance the human resource skills of the industrial and commercial sectors by education and training courses. As part of a deliberate strategy to have students exposed to experienced personnel, the CEEC targets key industry partners whose staff has the appropriate experience and technical skills to enable them to work along with CEEC staff on part-time contracts to deliver specific courses.  Areas in which courses are offered include:

Computing Courses

  •  Basic Computing
  •  Computer Programming
  •  Web Development
  •  Computer Networks Technology
  •  Microcomputer Technology
  •  Digital Computer Technology

Engineering Courses

  •  Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
  •  AutoCAD
  •  Industrial Hydraulics
  •  Building Services Technologies
  •  Programmable Logic Controllers
  •  Industrial Electronic Technologies
  •  Electrical Installation & Regulation
  •  Instrumentation and Control
  •  Terotechnolology (Engineering Maintenance)
  •  Occupational Safety and Health
  •  Project Management
  •  Facilities Management

These courses are, however, scheduled based on demand.

The Centre also responds to requests from companies for specialized training. These courses may be offered either at UTech or at the client’s premises. The CEEC has offered company specific training to:

  •  Alumina Partners of Jamaica
  •  Kaiser Bauxite Company
  •  Sandals Resorts
  •  J. Wray & Nephew
  •  Desnoes and Geddes
  •  Ministry of Local Government
  •  Cable and Wireless
  •  APM Terminals

Participants who successfully complete a course are offered a “CERTIFICATE” certifying competency for that course. If such a participant is accepted into one of the traditional programmes in the Faculty of Engineering & Computing he/she may, upon request, be granted exemption, by the respective Programme Directive, from equivalent courses depending on the content and standard of the course.
