COURSE DESCRIPTION

The B.Sc in Science and Education course will produce graduates who, upon graduation, have the requisite skills and competencies to contribute immediately to the workplace as science and/or mathematics teachers. They will be able to analyse and solve problems in science, as well as demonstrate an awareness of the importance of ethics and professionalism in the execution of their jobs, and be flexible, well-rounded individuals committed to lifelong learning.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates will find employment in the Secondary School System and will be able to  teach the science areas of specialisation up to the CAPE and Advanced Level.

 

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENT

In addition to passing a final selection interview, the successful applicant should satisfy the following conditions or possess equivalent qualifications:

a) Normal Entry Requirements

Five (5) CXC (General Proficiency level) grades, 1 or 2 (and grade 3 as of 1998) or GCE “O”-Level (Grades "A," "B" or "C").

or equivalent passes in:

English Language, Mathematics and two science subjects relevant to the areas of specialization plus one other subject.

(b) Mature Entry Requirements 

Persons 25 years of age and above, who are not eligible for admission under the normal Entry Requirements outlined above may apply for Mature Entry provided that:

Applicants have demonstrated potential suitability for University undergraduate studies by virtue of their attainments and/or relevant work experience. Such applications will be considered individually and portfolios attesting to these attainments must accompany the applications. Applicants may have to sit special tests designed to assess their command of the English language, numeracy, and reasoning ability.
