Welcome to the Department of Science and Mathematics at the University of Technology, Jamaica. In a technological age and especially within a technology-focused institution of higher learning the Department offers training in science and technology and seeks to enhance human development through service and scientific research. We offer courses of study in Science and Mathematics disciplines and deliver all Science and Mathematics modules in all courses of study that are offered across the University.

The courses we offer include a Bachelor of Science in Science and Education, an Associate of Science Degree in Science Laboratory Technology, a Certificate in The Art and Science of Coaching and modular courses in water works, sewage plant operation and maintenance and laboratory safety techniques.

The Department is due to start offering a Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics in the next academic year 2008/09. Other courses being developed include degrees in Environmental Science and Industrial and Analytical Chemistry and short courses in Horticulture in collaboration with Calyx Consulting Company.

There are four divisions within the Department: the Division of Mathematics and Statistics, the Division of Pure and Applied Physics, the Division of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the Biological Sciences Division. Through funding from the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica (EFJ) we are in the process of equipping a biotechnology and molecular biology lab for research in DNA Fingerprinting of Medicinally Significant Plants Endemic to Jamaica.

We are also in the process of equipping our Statistics Learning and Consulting centre (SLCC) that offers training and consultancy services in statistics.

With a cadre of 49 highly qualified and professional faculty members, the Department of Science and Mathematics offers quality service in teaching, scholarship and consultancy. We look forward to serving you in whatever capacity you might need our services as we strive for improvement in quality of life for humanity through science, technology and innovation.
