WELCOME
In the present economic climate, continuous development and research have to be encouraged in order to address the current challenges and propel future planning and vision. Science, technology and innovation (STI) has always been a critical driving force for improving economic and social welfare. Research and innovation have led to great industrial, technological, social and medical transformations, for example, by reducing the risk of trafficking dangerous and illicit materials through ports of entry, improving the treatment and prevention of diseases, advancing the computer age and decreasing the dependency on oil through innovations in alternative energy sources.
Jamaican brands are no exception as we continue to use innovations in science and technology to maintain and improve quality product offerings and efficient, certified manufacturing processes. Among our most successful "products" are our athletes who have had tremendous success on the international stage. Local initiatives and research have contributed greatly to this success and the Faculty of Science and Sport plays an integral role in the continued development throughout the region.
The Faculty of Science and Sport is committed to providing opportunities for researchers, entrepreneurs and practitioners in the region and abroad to discuss their current areas of scientific research, discoveries and innovations. With this in mind, we will be hosting our 2nd International Scientific Conference on June 5 - 7, 2012 under the theme "Linking Science, Technology and Innovation to Economic Development."
