Mission of the Human
Resources Department
“Endeavour to enhance a
culture of excellence, foster an environment that rewards,
recognizes and encourages efficiency through people”.
Strategies
-
Enhance the mission of the University as a centre of academic
excellence, learning, and efficient administration; by
ensuring that all academic staff have a minimum of a Masters
Degree in a relevant specialized area and have the required
competence in student centre learning methodologies.

Develop administrative staff to meet the University’s job
requirements, display competence, and practice quality
customer care.

Implement policies, practices and methodologies to recruit and
retain the best available talent so as to ensure the long-term
viability and competitiveness of the University.

Formulate and implement policies and procedures to consolidate
the Human Resources function as a pre-eminent one in the
University.

Develop a management cadre which displays and practices modern
leadership and management principles through progressive
employee relations, team orientation, stewardship,
transformational leadership, performance management and the
maintenance of employee well being.

Encourage and promote philosophy of the University’s human
capital operating at world-class standards with
professionalism integrity.
The Department is divided into
the following units:

Personnel
Employee Relations aims to
maintain harmonious Industrial Relations with the Staff
Associations and Union as well as manage the various benefits
including the Health, Group life, Pension, Welfare and Uniform.
Staff Development has the
overall responsibility for the development of staff both in
academic and other relevant areas.
Personnel Unit is responsible
for recruitment, retention and placement of staff.
The strategic focus of the
Department is covered under the following areas:

Measuring performance and providing feedback.

Maintaining progressive Industrial Relations.
The Department also ensures
that it is a strategic partner with the other Departments and
Faculties in managing the Human Resource assets of the
University.
